Agent-General and Trade & Investment Commissioner for Europe and Africa
The Queensland Trade & Investment office Europe and Africa is led by Ken Smith. He was appointed to the role under the Agent General for Queensland Act 1975 in April 2011 and commenced work in London in July 2011.
Prior to this appointment, Ken headed the Queensland Public Service as Director General of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet for approximately four years. He has held a number of Departmental Chief Executive Officer positions in Queensland since the early 90’s.
Ken has served as Coordinator-General and Director-General of the Department of Infrastructure, and has been the Director-General of a range of large Queensland Government departments including Education, Employment and Training, Family Services, Disability Services Queensland and Housing Local Government and Planning.
He has taken a leadership role in legislative, policy, program and regulatory reforms at state and national level in Australia for over 20 years.
Ken is a Fellow of the Australian College of Educators and Australian College of Educational Leadership and has held Adjunct Professorial positions at the Universities of Queensland and Sydney.
He has extensive experience as a chair and board member of a number of companies and statutory authorities in Australia and the United Kingdom.
