Event overview

You’ve got the bright ideas, now get investment-ready.

Learn to develop robust and effective business cases for prospective investors with Business Cases in Practice, a 2-day workshop offered by TIQ in partnership with UQ Executive Education and Queensland Treasury Corporation.

The workshop combines open discussions and practical exercises, taking you step-by-step through developing and reviewing an effective business case, and giving you the opportunity to apply the techniques you learn in a real-life context.

The material is presented in an easy-to-understand manner, with content and examples contextualised for SMEs in your region.

On completing the workshop, you will be better able to:

  • identify projects and opportunities requiring funding
  • prepare a business case strategically, considering projects from several angles
  • consider project needs, options and uncertainties when selecting your projects and opportunities
  • understand financial and economic analysis techniques that will support your business case
  • build a robust proposition and business case for funding consideration
  • review and analyse existing business cases.

Topics covered

Day one of the workshop will provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to prepare and deliver an effective business case.

Content will be facilitated in short sessions, allowing for interaction and small-group work across the day, with topics including: business case principles, investment decision making, needs and options analysis, risk management, financial and economic analysis, calculating cash flow, and others.

Day two will provide an opportunity to develop a business case for a current project you are seeking funding for, and give you one-on-one time with experts who can answer your specific questions.
