About the presenters

Amy Lever is currently working a contract with Trade Investment Queensland as a Senior Project Officer however holds a permanent role as Senior Economic Development Officer for Department of State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning (DSDMIP). Amy was previously based in a role with DSDMIP in Longreach, Central Queensland for several years where she was responsible for managing various funding programs and economic development activities with local Councils and community groups.

Amy moved to Townsville 4 years ago and is now responsible for connecting industry with major regional project opportunities to strengthen regional participation in project supply chains. Through the delivery of business development workshops, Amy works closely with industry to build their capability and help them to understand the importance of pitching themselves to put their best food forward when bidding for opportunities. Amy helps keep industry aware of future project developments and opportunities through the delivery of industry events and forums.

John Gillespie

After leaving Gatton Collage with an Associate Diploma in Agri -Business, John spent the next 24 years working and managing the 19,000ha broadacre and pastoral holding in western Queensland where he implemented several productivity and customer focused initiatives. One of these was the introduction of Clip Care, a third-party quality assurance scheme for the wool industry. In the late 1990’s, John left western Queensland to further his knowledge, completing a Degree in Resource and Environmental Economics at the University of New England. While there he combined study with a combination of business pursuits including financial counselling, productivity improvement, business development and agri-business services.

In 2004, John left New England to work with a Federal Government Statutory Authority delivering support services to Indigenous Agri-businesses as a Senior Project and Contract Manager. In 2009, John transferred to the Queensland Government where he continued studies, completing a Masters in Economic Studies while working to improve indigenous and non-indigenous business productivity.

Transferring over to mainstream economic development in 2014, John has focused on building Small to Medium Enterprises (SME) management capability and capacity in the south east region of Queensland through the development and delivery of a suite of workshops. These workshops focus on improving business financial analysis and resource use efficiency to assist Queensland businesses remain competitive in a global market-oriented economy.
