Minister Curtis Pitt meets students at the opening of the new student hub on the Gold Coast

The new Gold Coast Student Hub will provide international students with services and support to make sure they have the best experience possible while studying in Queensland.

Officially opened on 1 August by Treasurer and Minister for Trade and Investment Curtis Pitt, the Gold Coast Student Hub is a safe and welcoming place for students new to Australia.

The hub provides help with accommodation, work experience and other issues international students may face settling into the community. Domestic students can also access the hub, increasing opportunities for local and overseas students to get acquainted.

Located at Southport, the Gold Coast hub is the second to open in Queensland, with the MDA Brisbane Student Hub opening at the State Library of Queensland last September.

The Brisbane hub has proven popular, providing free information, advice and referrals on healthcare, employment, budget management, accommodation and legal services, as well as connecting students to local events and activities.

The Gold Coast Student Hub is one of 21 projects funded under the 2016–17 International Education and Training Partnership Fund pilot round launched in January this year.

A third student hub is due to open in Cairns in October this year.

Students can also access confidential phone support through the hubs by calling the 1800QSTUDY service on 1800 778 839.
