Amazon Australia has revealed plans to establish its first robotics fulfilment centre in South East Queensland, marking a significant milestone in the company’s expansion into the state.
The $750 million investment will deliver a state-of-the-art facility in the Logan suburb of North Maclean, south of Brisbane, creating more than 3,000 jobs during construction and operation.
Set to open in 2028, the 150,000 square metre facility will be one of the largest warehouses ever built in Queensland, with a floor space equivalent to 14 rugby league fields.
Equipped with advanced Amazon Robotics technology, the centre will house up to 15 million smaller items, such as pantry staples, beauty products, electronics and toys.
By using automation and mobile robots to bring inventory directly to workers, the centre’s operations are faster, safer and more efficient than standard fulfilment centres, where staff must manually locate items.
Once fully operational, it will process over 125 million packages annually, ensuring faster delivery for Queensland customers and supporting local small and medium businesses that use Amazon to reach customers across Australia.
The construction and fit-out phases will generate 2000 jobs, while the fulfilment centre will create diverse career opportunities with more than 1,000 permanent roles.
Amazon’s announcement reinforces Brisbane’s growing reputation as a logistics hub. China’s largest online retailer, JD.com, last year acquired a 99,000 square metre facility at Wacol for $240 million as it expands its operations in Australia.

Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ) has long supported Amazon in its continued investment in Queensland.
For this project, TIQ facilitated strategic engagement across government and worked in alignment with Economic Development Queensland to support Amazon’s decision to establish the new fulfilment centre. The new facility will complement the company’s existing Brisbane fulfilment centre at Lytton and logistics sites at Heathwood and Arundel, further boosting the company’s capacity to meet growing customer demand in Queensland.
This significant investment highlights Amazon’s confidence in Queensland’s growing economy and its commitment to enhancing its services for customers across the state.
