The Queensland Government is now in caretaker mode until after the state election. Minimal updates will be made to this site until after the election results are declared.
Hydrobiology provides environmental consulting services to companies, organisations, and governments around the world – combining technical excellence with high-level scientific expertise.
Founded in 2001, the company now operates mainly across Australia, South and South East Asia, and South America, and has offices in Brisbane, Perth, Papua New Guinea and Singapore, as well as a joint venture in Guyana.
Hydrobiology’s global credentials were celebrated in 2021 when the company won the ‘Sustainability’ category at the Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards.
The ‘Sustainability’ award recognises outstanding international success in environmental solutions, clean energy innovation, materials and energy efficiency, renewable energy, waste and water management, green buildings, smart cities and research collaboration.
Hydrobiology’s team has key technical strengths in the areas of risk and impact assessment, hydrology, ecotoxicology, freshwater and marine ecology, river mechanics, water quality, geochemistry and contamination management.
The company provides its clients with the best possible understanding of environmental risk arising from proposed activities and projects.
Director Andy Markham said the Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards success has delivered a number of benefits to the business.
‘As a company, we have been exporting for more than 20 years and have been involved as finalists in the awards several times before so to finally win was the culmination of a lot of work,’ he said.
‘Winning in 2021 was perfect timing for us as we are quickly developing our capabilities and market penetration in the renewables and clean energy sectors.
‘Many of the people we have been meeting with have mentioned the award and how it provides additional evidence of our strong reputation and credibility.
‘This is certainly helping us as we look to expand our operations.’
Since the success at the Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards 2021, Hydrobiology has enhanced its capabilities and revenue in renewable energy including offshore wind, floating solar and hydropower projects, and has a growing profile in the sector in countries including Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, Brazil and Bangladesh.
Director Andy Markham would have no hesitation encouraging other Queensland business to get involved in the awards.
‘The application process is straightforward and involves collating information that businesses would typically be keeping up to date and be able to access readily. It’s also important to include a little creativity and a compelling story in order to make your application stand out,’ he said.
‘We’ll be entering again and I can’t think of any reason why successful Queensland exporters wouldn’t want to get involved.’
