Queensland's reputation for premium produce shone bright in Tokyo as more than 150 Japanese buyers and investors attended a reception facilitated by Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ).
The event showcased Queensland's exceptional agriculture, health, wellness, and beverage offerings, further strengthening trade ties between Japan and Queensland. It's all part of a week-long trade mission to Japan and South Korea.
A highlight of the Japanese leg was the Taste of Queensland lunch, hosted by Queensland’s Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment, and Training Ros Bates where top Japanese business leaders from sectors including agribusiness, retail and resources got a first-hand taste of Queensland’s world-class products.
Taste of Queensland is Trade and Investment Queensland’s (TIQ) signature food and agriculture trade initiative.
This initiative connects international buyers, importers and distributors with Queensland's premium food, beverage, and agribusiness exporters.
Minister Bates highlighted the enduring friendship and robust trade relationship between Queensland and Japan, emphasising emerging opportunities across a range of industries.

Following the lunch, Queensland exporters took centre stage at Tokyo’s renowned Nissin World Delicatessen, a food retailer with a century-long history of supporting high-quality products.
The delegation also includes a visit to Meidi-ya, a nationwide retail chain and exclusive importer of Queensland’s Capilano Honey.
Japan is Queensland’s second-largest export destination, with $16.9 billion in exports in the year to September 2024. The trade relationship is primarily fueled by coal, LNG, and beef, yet there’s growing interest in expanding exports across other sectors, including food and beverages.
