Queensland and Southeast Asia
From the strategic port and service centre of Singapore to the manufacturing hubs of Thailand and Vietnam, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region is one of the world’s exciting regions. And with its mounting domestic demand and young population, it will continue to one of the fastest growing.
Queensland enjoys a strong export and two-way trading relationship with Southeast Asia. Vietnam is our fifth largest goods export market, which is unsurprising given our proximity and close cultural ties.
Investment from the region is also significant, with Singapore being one Australia’s largest sources of direct foreign investment.
The ASEAN–Australia–New Zealand (AANZFTA) delivers extensive tariff reduction and greater certainty for Queensland services suppliers.
Other agreements supporting Queensland business are:
- Malaysia-Australia (MAFTA) – 1 January 2013
- Thailand-Australia (TAFTA) – 1 January 2005
- Singapore-Australia (SAFTA) – 28 July 2003
