New energy - powering investment

Queensland is home to a flourishing renewables industry and emerging green hydrogen ecosystem.

Our state has abundant natural resources, namely sunshine and wind, which combined with our extensive network of energy infrastructure powers an ever-growing renewables industry.

There are currently 34 large-scale renewable energy projects operational in Queensland, with a further 14 under construction or having achieved final investment decision. Around 20 per cent of Queensland’s energy is currently sourced from renewables and we are targeting 50 per cent by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2050.

Fuel of the future

The ready availability of renewable energy means that Queensland is well placed to be a world-leader in the manufacture, transport, and use of green hydrogen – the clean fuel of the future.

With more than 30 hydrogen and related projects in planning across Queensland, there is an abundance of investment opportunities available for those looking to support the decarbonisation of global energy markets.

The Queensland Hydrogen Industry Strategy 2019–2024 lays out the Queensland Government’s vision for supporting the industry, and Trade and Investment Queensland’s (TIQ) Hydrogen Investment Prospectus details the opportunities and incentives available.

Queensland’s renewables industry, existing infrastructure at key ports, and extensive technical and research capabilities makes our state the ideal location for a green hydrogen industry to meet domestic and international demand.

The industry is supported by a range of state government incentives, including the $2 billion Queensland Renewable Energy and Hydrogen Jobs Fund. This allows our government-owned energy corporations to increase ownership of commercial renewable energy and hydrogen projects, as well as supporting infrastructure, including in partnership with the private sector.

Queensland leads the way in large-scale photovoltaic solar array deployment, with almost year-round sunshine, and has some of the strongest and most consistent wind resources in Australia. With a surplus of suitable land available for the further development of both sectors, Queensland’s natural advantages present a wealth of investment opportunities at all scales.
